Join in for a journey into the archives, as we look to the imperial origins of the research doctorate, and at the first PhD theses awarded by British Universities just after the first world war.

In this informal talk, David will also reflect on the changing nature of the research doctorate, and its significance within today's global 'brain race'.

This event is open to University of Southampton postgraduate researchers (PGR), postgraduate taught (PGT), masters research (MRes) students and all staff.
